She graduated from Bennington College in 1988 with a B.A. and Queens College with an M.F.A. in 1990. Parish is the daughter of four artists. She has been exhibiting regularly since the age of 18 and has been a practicing artist for nearly four decades. Artist's Statement: "I typically paint abstractly, but this is part of a recent series of paintings that is figurative and symbolic. They harken back to 80s neo-Expressionism - my favorite contemporary art movement. I tend not to beat collectors over the head with fatuous "meanings" of my work, but this one does have a subtext, a rather personal one. But you are welcome to read whatever you want into it."
