Additional Info: HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE WORK BY IRMA KUSIANI Artist Info/Bio: ARTIST BIOGRAPHY DOCUMENT IS INCLUDED Documentation: CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY IS INCLUDED About the Artist: Irma Kusiani was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, the capital of The Republic of Georgia in 1971. As her family moved often between Georgia and the Ukraine, Kusiani decided to call both countries her homeland. Kusiani is married to a fellow artist, Merab Gagiladze. They reside in Georgia with their two children. From 1987-1990, Kusiani attended and graduated from Toidze Art College for Ceramics. She continued her education at the Art Academy where she graduated with a degree in Industrial Design in 1995. While at the Academy, Kusiani took part in numerous fashion shows, both in Georgia and abroad, where she won two major awards for her ballroom clothing designs. Prior to graduating, Kusiani participated in an art exhibition with her fellow students. Unexpectedly, most of the attention was on her paintings. The colors, themes and the imagination were overwhelming. This was the beginning of Kusiani’s career as an artist. Shortly after, she was invited to exhibit at the President’s Palace in Kiev and in Parliament. Her paintings were purchased by the President’s Administration and given as gifts to foreign leaders and dignitaries. Kusiani became a national celebrity and took part in several cultural exchange visits to Romania, Russia, Moldova, and China. Her work was exhibited during the visits and she enjoyed the status of cultural attaché of her country. Kusiani works only with oil on canvas and prefers to use transparent tones, which bring a degree of light and freshness to her paintings. She often incorporates elements of ornamentation from old Georgian art into her paintings and is quite often influenced by legends, myths, and tales. It is very important to Kusiani that the depiction of the human form carries the theme of the painting. Outside of her home countries, Kusiani has exhibited in Paris, Moscow, Dublin, and the US. Her paintings are collected across the globe.
