About the Item

"Golden Light", Connie Borup, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 inches (Framed size: 33 x 43 inches), $4,800 “Connie Borup’s work cannot simply be described as landscape; it is the transforming light of dusk - the after glow of day that spell-like, borders on dream and reverie. Her paintings are intimate places of contemplation, silent worlds undisturbed by human kind or any narrative reference.” –Jane Connell. FROM THE ARTIST: In my recent art work I am taking a close, intimate look at nature. With a sense of quietude I invite the viewer to have a deeper, and more direct experience with our natural world. I am fascinated by the shapes of plants, leaves, pods branches and twigs and the play of light and shade on their surfaces. Water interests me because of its many visual and symbolic properties. It acts as a mirror to the sky and reflects its surroundings in unique and complex ways. This kind of complexity can increase the meditative state by holding one’s attention and focus longer. My paintings investigate the different levels of reality we can experience with a close observation of nature.

"Approach to Lee's Ferry" by Kim Whitesides, oil on canvas, 18 X 22 inches (Framed size: 21.5 x 25.5 inches) Whitesides made an impact in the art community at a very young age. While working as an illustrator in New York City from the late 60s through the mid 80s, his paintings appeared in many publications, including Time Magazine, Rolling Stone and Playboy. He received numerous awards from The Art Directors Club of New York and The Society of Illustrators. It was at this time that Whitesides began a period of bold work with the airbrush that emphasized the simplified spaces and clean lines of art deco and art moderne, for which he gained a national reputation. A native Utahn, Whitesides believes art is a language and an opportunity for his vision to inspire others. He continues to grow as an artist, as his art is constantly opening doors on new vistas...

25th Street, by Elise Zoller, 24 x 30 in. oil on panel. Elise Zoller has recently embarked on a series of plein air paintings of sites around Salt Lake City and in the smaller towns of Utah from Hurricane to Huntsville. She has enjoyed meeting people along the road and learning about the history of the state. “Plein air work can be physically demanding, but there is no substitute for working from life. Light and shadow dance in subtle ways a photograph cannot capture. Even the wind and the fragrances it carries inform the work. Scenes come alive when you stand in one place for a few hours. You’ve got to get to know a spot,” Elise says. “While I work, all manner of people come up and talk to me about their towns and their lives. I’ve met a downwinder from Enterprise, pie bakers in Veyo, pony cart...

Every summer, Jo goes down to the Coquitlam River near her home in British Columbia to enjoy the beautiful green surroundings glowing in the summer heat. "I couldn't resist how inviting this scenery was," she says. "Where I live, summer only lasts about three months, so I put this scene on canvas to enjoy it the whole year through."
