About the Item

House on Whidbey Island, Washington captures the quiet beauty of one of the Pacific Northwest's most iconic landscapes. Signed lower right, George Gallo presents a secluded farmhouse nestled among towering evergreens, its warm architecture emerging from a field illuminated by soft afternoon light. The expansive meadow, painted with lively strokes of green and gold, creates a striking contrast against the cool shadows of the surrounding forest, while Gallo's expressive brushwork gives the entire scene a sense of movement and life. The composition evokes the peaceful rhythm of rural Washington, where open fields, dense woodlands, and changing light create an atmosphere of timeless tranquility. Internationally recognized for his acclaimed career as an Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and director, George Gallo has also become one of today's most accomplished plein air painters. His work reflects a deep understanding of light, atmosphere, and composition, blending the traditions of American Impressionism with a bold contemporary style that is uniquely his own. Meyer Fine Art Gallery is proud to represent George Gallo as the first contemporary artist in the gallery's history. House on Whidbey Island, Washington is an excellent example of Gallo's ability to transform an everyday landscape into a richly atmospheric painting, reflecting the gallery's commitment to presenting exceptional living artists alongside its distinguished collection of historic American and European masterworks.

April, Connecticut River captures the quiet transition from winter into spring, when the landscape begins to awaken with color, light, and renewed energy. Signed lower right, George Gallo masterfully balances cool reflections of the river with warm bursts of emerging foliage, creating a composition that feels both peaceful and full of anticipation. Delicate pinks, fresh greens, brilliant blues, and glowing golds dance across the surface of the water, while expressive brushwork gives the scene a remarkable sense of movement and atmosphere. Rather than documenting the landscape exactly as it appears, Gallo captures the fleeting experience of standing beside the Connecticut River on a bright April morning as the season begins to change. Artist Comments
Artist Brian McCarty depicts a quiet rural home behind a red barn. Surrounded by a field of grass and autumnal trees, a car sits on the winding dirt path. "Everyday life is caught in a moment," says Brian. "Arriving home, or getting ready to leave home. A lazy afternoon." Just the type of subject Brian loves to paint.

About the Artist
Artist Brian McCarty paints idyllic landscapes and bucolic architecture. “Growing up in rural New Jersey, I’ve always found old houses, barns, and the countryside interesting subjects,” says Brian. Influenced by his mom who was a self-taught artist and art teacher, she encouraged Brian to pursue anything artistic. After graduating from Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art and earning his BA in Art from Thomas Edison State College, he worked professionally as a graphic designer in New York for the largest publishing houses in the country. A career that spanned thirty-six years. Brian has done comedy and sketch writing with the Groundling Theater, and worked in a few major feature films as an actor. To begin his process, Brian takes photos of his references with an iPad, crops the images to his liking, and paints directly on his canvas with a quick oil wash. Recently returning to painting full time, he converted a room in his house into a working studio. “I get lots of natural light, and listen to music and podcasts while I paint.”
