Died in October 1904 in Paris Painter, Watercolor Lively landscapes, seascapes, panoramas Charles Kuwasseg was the son of the Austrian painter Karl Joseph Kuwasseg and worked first with his father before becoming a sailor. Upon his return to France in 1883, he studied under the direction of Durand-Brager and Isabey. He later became a teacher of painting and had as pupils Iwill and Emile Clarel. He also worked with Théophile Poilpot on various panoramas. Charles E. Kuwasseg mastered the art of contrast perfectly and showed exceptional finesse, and was one of the most admired painters of the XIXth century. He made his first exhibition in Paris in 1855 at the salon where he continued to present works regularly. He also exhibited frequently at the Salon des artistes français and was awarded a bronze medal in 1892. In 2003, some of his works appeared in the collective exhibition “Bretagne, Terre des peintres” at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Vannes.
