The sheet displays general handling creases and undulation, particularly across the lower half and towards the edges. There are a few minor surface marks, including a small red mark near the lower left and light graphite transfer visible on the reverse. The paper edges show slight wear consistent with an unframed studio drawing. The image itself remains clear and stable. Description An expressive seated female figure study by French artist Jacqueline Boisselot, drawn in graphite pencil on artist paper. The model is shown resting in a large upholstered chair, her head supported by one hand and her body turned slightly to the side in a relaxed, contemplative pose. The composition is built around the sweeping curves of the chair and the figure’s loosely draped form. Boisselot uses light, exploratory lines alongside darker passages of cross hatching to define the face, arms and folds of fabric. The sitter’s features are softly described, with the lowered gaze and resting posture giving the work a quiet, introspective mood. The chair occupies much of the composition and is suggested through broad, flowing outlines rather than precise detail. This creates a strong sense of volume while allowing the figure to remain the principal focus. Areas of concentrated shading around the shoulders, waist and side of the chair add depth, while much of the paper is left untouched, preserving the immediacy of a drawing made directly from observation. Visible corrections and repeated lines reveal Boisselot’s working process and give the study a lively, spontaneous character. The contrast between the carefully observed face and the more freely handled drapery and surroundings places the work firmly within a modern figurative tradition. The vertical format and restrained monochrome palette make this an attractive and versatile work for an interior. Presented in a simple frame with a generous mount, it would suit a bedroom, dressing room, study or collected gallery wall, where its elegant line and intimate studio character could be fully appreciated. Jacqueline Boisselot was a French artist active during the later 20th century, known through her surviving works for expressive portraits, figure studies, still lifes and modernist compositions.
