Signed John Baldessari print 1991 (Baldessari Love and Work)

By John Baldessari

Located in NEW YORK, NY

John Baldessari Love and Work 1991: Baldessari’s Love & Work 1991, photogravure and color aquatint, features clasped hands clutching surrealistically amidst a black background. Classic, timeless Baldessari imagery that is sure to work well in any setting. Medium: Color photogravure and aquatint on wove paper. 1991. Dimensions: 26 x 11.5 inches. Well-preserved and in very good overall condition. Framed in acrylic plexiglass. One of the 15 numbered artist's proofs, aside from the general edition of 60. Signed, inscribed "A.P." and numbered 12/15 in pencil, lower margin. Published by Brooke Alexander, Inc., New York. Collections: MoMa New York John Baldessari: It is hard to characterize John Baldessari's varied practice—which includes photomontage, artist’s books, prints, paintings, film, performance, and installation—except through his approach of good-humored irreverence. Baldessari is commonly associated with Conceptual or Minimalist art, though he has called this characterization “a little bit boring.” His two-dimensional works often incorporate found images, composed in layers or presented as distinct pieces with an element of surprise, like a brightly colored geometric shape in the place of a face or a starkly printed sardonic caption. Baldessari has demonstrated a lasting interest in language and semantics, articulating these concerns through the use of puns or the juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated images and words, as in his 1978 work Blasted Allegories. His self-referencing photomontages and use of text have been sources of inspiration for countless artists, including Cindy Sherman, David Salle, and Barbara Kruger. Baldessari identifies his own artistic lineage, saying, "I would prefer to go to the source with Duchamp rather than credit Warhol as an influence." Related Categories: Surrealist. Ed Ruscha. By Andy Warhol

Located in Pasadena, CA

Andy Warhol Andy Warhol Scotch Broth Soup, Campbell’s Soup II, 1969 is an incredible version of the Campbell’s soup can. Part of Campbell’s “Manhandler” series, which were created to cater to a male consumer that wanted a more substantial soups, Scotch Broth Soup includes the distinctive, bold golden-yellow lettering across the label’s central golden seal. The label is as chunky as the soup that would presumably be inside. This method of advertising soup may seem ridiculous now, and by portraying the can’s label without circumstance and without context, this version of Warhol’s iconic soup can reveals the comical nature of advertisement. The Campbell’s brand was, and still is, a household name. Warhol is known for his fascination with consumer culture; these works evoke the brand’s advertisements. Warhol also had a more personal connection to the subject. He once stated “I used to drink it. I used to have the same lunch every day, for 20 years…the same thing over and over again.” Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup II contains ten screenprints, each depicting a different flavor of the brand’s soup. This portfolio focuses on some of the more unusual types of soup that Campbell’s made, and the labels have idiosyncratic graphics added to the typical Campbell’s soup label...

By Francesco Scavullo

Located in Surfside, FL

Francesco Scavullo (January 16, 1921 – January 6, 2004) was an American fashion photographer best known for his work on the covers of Cosmopolitan and his celebrity portraits. Scavullo was born in Staten Island, New York City. Early on, he used his father's camera to photograph his sisters who would model for him. After graduating from high school in 1945, Scavullo began working for a studio that produced fashion catalogs. He soon moved to Vogue. Scavullo spent three years as Horst P. Horst's assistant, studying Horst's techniques. In 1948, he created a cover for Seventeen that won him a contract with the magazine. Scavullo soon opened his own studio in Manhattan. Good Housekeeping cover from July 1967. Cover photo of Alana Collins (later Alana Stewart) by Scavullo. In 1969, Scavullo painted singer Janis Joplin, with a cigarette in her hand, a picture exhibited at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. The museum poster refers to Joplin, who died in 1970, as having a "free-spirited fervor of the counterculture revolution." Some of Scavullo's more controversial work included a Cosmospolitan centerfold of a nude Burt Reynolds, and photographs of a young Brooke Shields that some considered overly sexual. He also befriended a young teenager from Philadelphia, future supermodel Gia Carangi, whose career he was largely responsible for launching.[citation needed] Later, when Carangi's heroin addiction made it impossible for her to find work, Scavullo continued to employ her and support her until her eventual death from complications relating to AIDS. Scavullo also created shots for various movie posters, album covers and Broadway shows, including one for A Star is Born (featuring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson), Judy Collins' Hard Times for Lovers, a portrait of Julie Andrews for Blake Edwards' Victor Victoria...
