About the Item

A finely observed original etching and aquatint by Trevor Southey depicting a basket of farm eggs with a single egg resting in the foreground. Rich cross-hatching and subtle aquatint create a quiet rural still life with exceptional tonal depth. The print demonstrates Southey's mastery of traditional intaglio techniques and his ability to find beauty in everyday objects. Signed and numbered from the edition of 40. Trevor Southey was born in Rhodesia, Africa (now Zimbabwe) in 1940. His African heritage can be traced to European colonists who settled in Cape Town, South Africa in the 17th century. In 1965 he immigrated to the United States, retaining an abiding sense of his African and British origins. Southey's formal training includes two years at the Brighton College of Art in Sussex, England. He taught art at Brigham Young University through 1977. In 2010 The Utah Museum of Fine Arts presented the first full retrospective exhibit following Southey's entire career. PERMANENT INSTITUTIONAL COLLECTIONS: Price Waterhouse, LLP George S.
