About the Item

Kioveo Must is a sculpture by French contemporary artist Jacques Owczarek. This sculpture is available in format 6 x 12 x 6 cm (2.4 × 4.7 × 2.4 in). The artwork is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 8 editions + 4 artist’s proofs, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. This bronze hippopotamus emerges through a play of lines, edges, and curves. Its essential traits are immediately recognizable — the massive body, the short legs — yet the artist’s interpretation distinguishes itself through the clarity of form, the precision of the contours, and the sculpture’s geometric construction. These elements combine to make this hippopotamus a singular work, imbued with both vitality and emotion. White bronze is a bronze alloy in which part of the copper is replaced by tin and zinc, giving the metal its distinctive silvery tone. A self-taught artist, Jacques Owczarek discovered sculpture at the age of 30 and considers that moment his true birth as an artist. A tireless craftsman, he works with meticulous care, driven by an endless pursuit of perfection. He never begins a sculpture with a specific animal in mind — the form reveals itself during creation. As he explains: “I take some clay, I work it, and I observe it. I try to discern an animal, and gradually it emerges. It’s the clay that speaks — my hands merely translate.” Owczarek’s animal sculptures are remarkable: viewed from one angle, they defy prediction of what appears from another. One must walk around them to grasp their full complexity. His works radiate both sensitivity and humor, as though each had absorbed a fragment of their creator’s own soul.
