Cécile Bisciglia Animal Paintings

Since 2009, Cécile Bisciglia has devoted herself to large-scale drawings using a ballpoint pen. The originality of her work lies in the confrontation between an academic mastery of drawing and a tool as modern as the biro. The artist does not draw definite contours but works with light and shadow, revealing the forms. Through her hyper-realistic drawings and choice of subjects, Cécile Bisciglia depicts the living. She explores the contours of the body, femininity, animality and humanity. Her large-scale portraits, impressive in their truthfulness, forcefully confront the viewer with the face of a gorilla, folds of tortured skin, or the intimacy of the female body. The viewer’s eye is drawn back and forth between observing the detail and contemplating the monumental subject before them. “What interests me is sensitive lines, lines which vibrates.”
