David Nicholson Ingles was born in Selkirk in Scotland in 1888, the youngest child of his parents. He was a portrait painter. Between 1891–1901, they were living at Forest Road, Selkirk. By 1917, David was in Dublin and is sometimes referred to as an Irish artist. In 1919, he was elected as an Associate Member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. Ingles exhibited four paintings at the Royal Scottish Academy, one at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the fine arts, one at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and 25 at the Royal Hibernian Academy. He has one portrait in the National Collection, which is a portrait of William Booth, hanging in the National Portrait Gallery, London and one portrait owned by the National Trust, Castle Ward, County Down. By 1930, he was back in London, where he died in Edmonton in 1933, at the very young age of 45.
