Laurent Parcelier Figurative Paintings

French, b. 1962

Laurent Parcelier was born in 1962 in Chamalières, France. In 1978, he attended Arts Appliqués de Paris. Parcelier worked as the illustrator and author of a comic strip from 1986–96. Since 1996, the artist has dedicated his work to only painting. Parcelier has published eight albums at Casterman and is affiliated Affilié à la Maison des Artistes. He has been a member of numerous salons in France. He has exhibited his work in France and the USA and numerous collectors throughout the world own Laurent Parcelier’s paintings.

A young girl, centered and frontal, sits in an inflatable ring surrounded by floating plastic waste—bottles, containers, straws—both above and beneath the water’s surface. Surdo’s atelier-based training is evident in the careful modeling of the child’s anatomy, the naturalistic rendering of skin tones, and the controlled atmospheric perspective.
