Marcel Giraud Bowls and Baskets

Marcel Giraud was born in 1937 in Vallauris, France. He left school at the age of 13 to become an apprentice potter at the workshop of Blaise Rubino. He later worked at several other workshops in the area until he opened his own studio in 1960, creating mostly utilitarian ware. Since 1975, Giraud has taken up painting, sculpture and continues to create sculptural figures, animals and other decorative objects in his retirement.

Between these borders, a series of textured geometric segments form the stylised petals of a sunflower motif, lending the piece both rhythm and warmth. The rim carries a matching hue and an incised, rope-like repeating pattern, adding further visual and tactile interest.
