About the Item

A superb Japanese porcelain long-necked vase by Tokuda Yasokichi III (1933–2009), dating to circa the 1980s. The elegant spherical body rises to a slender, ribbed neck and is finished in a spectacular graduated palette of deep violet, cobalt blue and turquoise, demonstrating the artist’s celebrated mastery of coloured glazes. Signed to the base. Tokuda Yasokichi III, known as Tokuda Masahiko before succeeding to the family name in 1988, became one of the most important modern masters of Kutani ware. Building upon techniques passed down through his grandfather, Tokuda Yasokichi I, and father, Tokuda Yasokichi II, he developed his distinctive saiyu glazing technique, celebrated for its exceptionally subtle gradations and luminous transitions of colour. In 1997, he was designated a Living National Treasure of Japan for his mastery of coloured porcelain glazes. Dimensions: 21 cm H x 11 cm diameter Weight: 0.45 kg Condition: Perfect condition.
