About the Item

A superb British Art Deco ribbed vase by Shelley, decorated in the celebrated Harmony drip ware pattern and dating from circa 1930. This striking example features a sculptural, deeply ribbed body enhanced by flowing bands of powder blue, brown and subtle tonal variations, creating the distinctive hand-finished appearance for which Shelley's Harmony wares are admired. The upper section is dominated by a rich powder blue glaze, gradually transitioning into expressive vertical drip decoration in shades of blue and brown across the lower ribs. The contrasting yellow-glazed interior adds another vibrant element to the design. The combination of bold colour, fluid glazing and strongly modelled horizontal ribs gives the vase an unmistakably Art Deco character. A particularly decorative example of Shelley pottery, its substantial proportions and unusual glaze treatment make it an excellent display piece for collectors of British Art Deco ceramics and early 20th-century decorative arts.
