Stunning and rare, this beautiful and panoramic Japanese woodblock triptych print was produced in the 1850s in a now famed collaboration between renowned artists Utagawa (Ando) Hiroshige and Utagawa (Toyokuni III) Kunisada. Hiroshige was the leading landscape print artist and Kunisada the leading actor and figure print artists of their era. The print has all the correct artist's (Hiroshige's red rectangular seal), publisher and date seals and stamps. It was originally purchased from the Franell Gallery which was located in the Okura Hotel in Tokyo in the late 1960s and 1970s and owned by American artist and writer Frances Blakemore...

A beautiful snapshot of a child and her favorite doll, an ever-trusted companion. Notice how the doll holds her hand in a protective gesture. Junichiro Sekino was largely considered, along with Kiyoshi Saito, to be one of Japan's paramount 20th century master print artists. Both were prominent leaders of the Sosaku Hanga movement. An assembled pair of Japanese Woodblock print by Paul Jacoulet (French, 1896-1960) entitled La Mariee and Le Marie, Seoul Coree (The Bride and The Groom). Created in 1948 and 1950, the two prints were not intentionally designed by Jacoulet as a matching pair. However, it became popular among his collectors to pair them as a couple due to the subject matter and the complimentary and symmetrical composition. La Mariee shows a shy bride against a rather plain window like background which made her elaborate wedding gown pop. Silver and MOP mica were used both in the background and on her dress, the sash and its embroidery. It is signed in plate and marked with the Red Owl stamp. A truly wonderful and extremely rare limited edition woodblock print by famed Japanese artist Junichiro Sekino This print of a pensive young girl dressed in a poncho and hat (likely in Mexico or Central/ South America) is hand pencil signed, sealed/ stamped in red, and numbered (appears to be 12/98 or 19/98) by Sekino. The image features a uniquely sparse composition and rich vibrant colors - very representative of the country this was likely initially conceived in. An exquisite and very rare/hard-to-find work. We have not seen this particular image ever come to the marketplace.
