About the Item

A beautifully handpainted 19th century interior door, previously fitted into The Grange, Wendover; an English Grade II Listed Building based in Buckinghamshire with a rich history. This unusual door has 6 pine panels to one side, painted with birds and trees in the English folk art style, and an 8-panel oak door to the reverse, likely once part of a panelled room. Now a large private home, The Grange at Wendover has origins dating back to the 17th century. Between 1789 and 1794, it was owned by English businessman and American Revolutionary, John Barker Church (1748-1818). Barker was brother-in-law to Alexander Hamilton, one of the United States founding fathers, and supplied the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783).
