About the Item

Antique 18th-century lacquered door with original frame. The front is distinguished by a complex and refined geometric arrangement of high-relief panels, enriched by mixtilinear moldings that frame three magnificent hand-painted reserves with scenes of architectural capriccios and bucolic landscapes in pastel shades. The central panel features a depiction of classical ruins immersed in vegetation, surmounted by a curved upper lunette and completed by a rectangular lower panel with a similar river landscape. The ivory and cream-toned lacquer background enhances the delicacy of the paintings and the depth of the carved profiles. The back reveals an unexpected and refined double decorative aspect, with a monochrome "sanguigna" pictorial finish, an artistic choice that evokes the delicacy of period drawings and 18th-century bucolic engravings. The wooden structure is organized here into three regular, overlapping rectangular panels, framed by linear moldings depicting three rural landscapes with hills, hazy trees, and small rural villages in the background. The thick, rough or partially stripped wood perimeter frame, which served as a stop within the original jamb, is clearly visible, leaving visible the old anchor points and wrought-iron hinges, evidence of its centuries-old use.
