This Murano sommerso glass bowl by Fratelli Toso was hand-blown in Italy in the early 1950s and reflects the sculptural direction of post-war Venetian glass. Conceived as a centerpiece, the bowl prioritizes form and internal composition over utilitarian function, aligning with the period’s exploration of organic, modernist design. Executed in the sommerso technique, the bowl features a milky opaline core encased within a substantial layer of clear crystal. Suspended within the glass are rose-pink zanfirico canes, delicately twisted and arranged in rhythmic, spiraling formations. Fine aventurine inclusions introduce a subtle copper shimmer, contributing to the depth and optical complexity of the piece. The undulating, asymmetrical freeform silhouette reinforces its sculptural character, while the precision of the cane work demonstrates the technical control associated with Fratelli Toso’s mid-century production. The bowl is in very good vintage condition, with no chips or cracks. Light surface wear to the base is consistent with age and careful use.
