About the Item

Rosenthal Studio-Line clear and Frosted crystal Cube Ashtray or Vide-Poche, Germany, 1970s This is a striking Rosenthal Studio-Line Lucite and glass ashtray or vide-poche, designed with minimalist precision and a bold sculptural presence. Measuring 7 inches square by 3 inches high, the piece is composed of a solid, clear crystal cube with a deeply inset frosted glass bowl, creating an elegant contrast in tone and texture. The hemispherical recess gives the illusion of a floating sphere, a hallmark of 1970s Modernist design and optical experimentation. Brass pins are embedded at each corner joint, both structurally reinforcing and stylistically accenting the form. Signed "Rosenthal studio-line" on the side panel, this piece reflects the German brand's innovative spirit during the peak of its postwar design era. Though functional as an ashtray or catchall, the object reads just as well as a pure geometric sculpture—perfect for a coffee table, executive desk, or curated shelving display. The condition is excellent with light wear to the crystal surfaces, consistent with age and use. A rare example of Rosenthal’s foray into architectural crystal design, this piece feels at once vintage and contemporary.

Lalique "Épis" Crystal and Silver-Plated Table Box, France, Circa 1980s

Lalique "Épis" Crystal and Silver-Plated Table Box, France, Circa 1980s

Lalique "Épis" Crystal and Silver-Plated Table Box, France, Circa 1980s Lalique "Épis" crystal and silver-plated table box featuring the celebrated Épis (Wheat) pattern, signed Lalique France. This elegant French crystal table box combines the purity of thick, hand-finished clear crystal with sculptural satin-frosted relief decoration and substantial silver-plated mounts. Designed with a robust hinged lid and weighty silver-plated frame, the box exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and timeless Art Deco-inspired aesthetic that has distinguished Lalique throughout the late twentieth century. The Épis pattern—French for "ears of wheat"—is among Lalique's most enduring naturalistic designs. Two gracefully sweeping wheat stalks are rendered in high relief across the lid, their alternating frosted and polished surfaces creating remarkable depth as they capture and diffuse light. Wheat has long symbolized abundance, prosperity, fertility, and renewal, themes that René Lalique frequently interpreted through botanical forms of exceptional elegance. Unlike many lighter decorative crystal boxes, this example is crafted with substantial solid crystal walls and a base, giving it impressive weight and an architectural presence. Equally noteworthy are the heavy-duty silver-plated mounts, whose precision-fitted frame and robust hinges provide both durability and refined visual contrast against the luminous crystal. The quality of the mounts elevates the piece beyond a simple trinket box, making it an elegant decorative object suitable for a coffee table, desk, vanity, or cocktail cabinet. Produced as Pattern No. 10579, the Épis collection dates from the 1980s–1990s, reflecting Lalique's continued mastery of combining René Lalique's celebrated naturalistic motifs with clean, modern geometric forms. The restrained design allows the exceptional crystal carving to remain the focal point while complementing both traditional and contemporary interiors. Signed "Lalique France," this sophisticated table box is ideal for storing jewelry, cufflinks, watches, treasured keepsakes, or desk accessories while serving as a sculptural decorative accent in its own right. Dimensions Width: 5.5 in. Depth: 4.5 in. Height: 2 in. Condition Excellent vintage condition. Signed Lalique France. Heavy crystal with substantial silver-plated mounts exhibiting light age-appropriate wear and retaining an exceptional presentation. Signed Alessandro Mandruzzato for Design Guild Murano Sommerso Faceted Glass Box, 1970s A striking sculptural Murano glass box signed “Mandruzzato for Design Guild,” showcasing the celebrated faceted-block technique perfected by the Mandruzzato family in the 1960s–80s. The heavy, optic-clear crystal form contains a dramatic sommerso core, rendered in deep black glass infused with shimmering micro-granulated 24k gold. The internal composition appears to float within the thick, architectural walls, magnified by the sharply cut and hand-polished geometric facets. The hinged lid opens to reveal a molded black-glass interior well, its glossy surface contrasting with the jewel-like radiance of the glass block. The original brass piano hinge and frame remain intact. This design was produced as a special commission for Design Guild, a luxury American importer, and is far scarcer than the unsigned Mandruzzato vases and blocks commonly encountered. A powerful example of Murano Brutalist...
