About the Item

A handsome Continental rectangular iron-bound bullion (or strong) box or coffer chest of patinated walnut from the Renaissance 17th century, featuring a paneled exterior with decorative moldings, hinged top, and handles at each end. Hand-forged iron hinge hardware in the interior shows ornate blue enamel through a heavy patina. The whole set on casters. Historically used as a travel chest or for storing valuable items like bullion, fine linens and documents.
