About the Item

Impressive wrought iron tabletop safe with engraved decoration and original patina. This type of safe was commonly used in the 16th and 17th centuries to hold valuables, alms, or documents, in both religious and civil contexts. The solid structure rests on four truncated pyramidal legs with corner reinforcements, while the sides feature movable wrought iron handles. The surface is decorated with geometric and floral motifs barely visible through the wear, a true testament to its age. The front locking mechanism is beautifully crafted with an ornate iron plate cut with flamboyant motifs, and its original key is preserved, adding exceptional value to the piece. The interior is tinted red, a common feature in safe interiors of the period that served both an aesthetic function and to protect against rust. Its compact size makes it ideal as a display piece in classic interiors, antique collections, or spaces with a historical character.
