About the Item

This is a late 18th-century George III mahogany knife box, typically dating to circa 1790. The piece displays the definitive characteristics of the late Georgian period: The Shape: It features a distinctive sloping hinged lid combined with a serpentine or D-shaped front outline. The Inlay: The top is adorned with a detailed marquetry panel depicting an oval branch or patera motif, surrounded by fine stringing and crossbanded borders. The Hardware: It retains its original antique silver or white-metal shield-shaped escutcheon and hardware on the front breakfront section. This 18th century inlaid mahogany knife box can also be used as a liquor decanter holder. It has rich patina, beautiful inlay, very good antique condition. Dimensions 9 1/2" x 12 1/4" x 15". The top of the cabinet is inlaid with an oak leaf. The interior inlay is a star. A great find for the liquor connoisseur in your life. Originally a Knife Box.
