About the Item

Here is a sculptural Mid-Century Modern Italian ceramic lidded box imported and distributed by Rosenthal Netter, the influential New York firm responsible for introducing many of Italy's most distinctive postwar ceramic designs to the American market. Executed in richly textured earthenware, the vessel is finished in a dramatic charcoal-black glaze accented by hand-applied geometric motifs in cream and brown. The domed lid features a rhythmic pattern of diamond forms surrounding a bold circular finial, while the body displays a deeply textured volcanic surface that reveals warm earthen tones beneath the glaze. The combination of primitive-inspired decoration, tactile surfaces and strong architectural form reflects the innovative spirit of Italian ceramic design during the 1960s. Founded by Irving and Florence Netter in 1950, Rosenthal Netter became one of America's foremost importers of European decorative arts, collaborating with leading Italian manufacturers and designers whose work helped define Mid-Century Modern interiors. Pieces bearing the Rosenthal Netter label remain highly sought after for their distinctive blend of artistry, craftsmanship and decorative appeal. Both functional and sculptural, this covered vessel works beautifully as a decorative accent on a coffee table, bookshelf, credenza or vanity while providing concealed storage for small objects. Condition: Very good vintage condition. No apparent chips, cracks or repairs. Minor wear consistent with age and use. Dimensions: Height: 6", Diameter: 6.25"
