About the Item

Expressive American studio raku ceramic covered vessel dating to the late 20th century. This sculptural postmodern form features a hand-built matte charcoal-black body raised on four stylized feet with a fitted inset lid displaying an abstract geometric composition in muted celadon, cream, black, cobalt blue, and earthy metallic tones. The lid decoration evokes Memphis Milano-inspired design sensibilities with intersecting linear motifs, organic spotted patterning, and painterly asymmetry. Smoky reduction effects and subtle iridescent undertones throughout the body are characteristic of traditional raku firing techniques. A beautifully scaled decorative object ideal for a postmodern, MCM, wabi-sabi, or contemporary interior. Works equally well as a small covered vessel, decorative box, or sculptural cabinet object.
