About the Item

Pair of Bilston Enamel Candlesticks, Lilac Landscape Reserves & Gilt Details, c1780 A fine pair of Bilston enamel candlesticks originating from South Staffordshire, England, around 1780. Featuring a white enamel ground on copper with Lilac (pinkish-purple) reserves enclosing detailed hand-painted landscape scenes of rural vistas, including buildings, trees, and figures, framed by elegant gold scrolls and floral accents. The form boasts lobed scalloped bases, baluster stems with moulded rings, and floral-decorated bobeches, standing at 10 inches tall. Subtle crazing, minor chips, and gilding loss reflect genuine period wear without compromising structural integrity. This pair's scarcer lilac coloration and figural motifs make it a standout for collectors of Georgian enamels.
