About the Item

An elegant French brass carriage clock dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, presented in a classic gorge case with bevelled glass panels to all sides and a beautifully detailed enamel dial with black Arabic numerals. The decorative gilt floral centre and finely cast brass case reflect the exceptional quality associated with traditional French clockmaking. The substantial brass case features fluted corner columns, pierced decorative galleries and a folding carrying handle, while the glazed sides reveal the beautifully engineered eight-day movement within. A viewing aperture to the top allows the original platform escapement to be admired in operation, adding to the clock's appeal for collectors. This is a handsome decorative timepiece that would make an elegant addition to a study, library, desk, mantelpiece or collector's cabinet. Its timeless design complements both traditional and contemporary interiors. The clock is offered in as-found condition. The movement appears clean and complete, and the overall quality of manufacture is excellent. However, as with all antique clocks of this age, it is sold without warranty as to its working order or timekeeping accuracy and may benefit from inspection or servicing before regular use.
