About the Item

A stunning and most impressive French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu, Onyx and marble clock and pedestal, retailed by Camerden & Forster. This most rare set is comprised of a richly chased cartel clock raised on its original pedestal displaying an Onyx plinth below a Breccia Pernice marble band and adorned with an Oak leaf band accented with crossed ribbons. A concave and fluted band supports the Onyx body of the pedestal, which showcases an inset Breccia Pernice marble panel behind an impressive and large scale Ormolu mount or swaging garland. The richly chased garlands display a stunning satin and burnished finish, while accented with a flowing ribbon above and held by Ormolu foliate mounts to each side. The stacked top features stepped and coved Onyx segments separated by a Breccia Pernice band and richly chased and etched Ormolu mount. Above is an additional Breccia Pernice marble band accented with a delicate Ormolu beaded trim before the top display surface. The exceptionally detailed clock is raised on scrolled Rocaille designed feet flanking a charming seashell reserve connected by a flowing Ormolu trim encase the entirety of the clock body. The clock showcases a stunning Rocaille designed front bezel with wonderful scrolled movements below the Ormolu and enameled dial. The dial features wonderful enameled cartouches with black Roman numerals for the hours and minutes on the outer border. At the center is a wonderfully chased reserve of Fleur de Lys, garlands, and laurel branches surrounding a profile of Napoleon. Above the dial are charming Rocaille designed mounts to each side and below the pierced and scrolled top crown.
