About the Item

A fine French Louis XVI Style gilt and patinated bronze and white marble figural mantel clock with a figure of a drummer cherub. The brown patina cupid, seated on gilt-bronze clouds with arrows, flutes and a flaming torch, holding the drum-clock and a drumstick and with an arrow quiver and toumborine by his side; raised on a white marble base surmounted with floral and rosette ormolu mounts, on gilt-bronze toupie feet. The twin train pendulum movement with a striking bell stamped 'Medaille D'Or - Samuel Marti - Paris 1900' - The back of the clock stamped 'Fabrication Français' - 'Made is France' - 'Paris'. In the 1860s Samuel Marti collaborated with another two celebrated renown French clock-makers: Roux and Japy Frères. circa: Paris, 1900. Measures: Height 14 3/4 inches (37.5 cm) Width 15 inches (38.1 cm) Depth 7 1/2 inches (19.1 cm).
