About the Item

Napoleon III figural astronomical sciences clock. The patinated bronze winged putto stands beside the ‘blued’ bronze globe of the world housing the movement; he holds scientific instruments, telescope, calibers etc. in one hand and points to the heavens in the other. The globe is partially draped in gilded bronze atop which are maps of the heavens. He stands on a black marble shaped base bordered with gilt bronze beading, on a further red griotte marble, again on a further black marble base decorated with gilt bronze all round. The original eight day movement with steel suspension rings the hours and halves on a bell.
