About the Item

Plaster bust of Vitellius (Aulus Vitellius), Roman emperor in the year 69 AD, during the turbulent ‘Year of the Four Emperors’. Vitellius was known for being obese and a bon vivant, which is well reflected in the full cheeks and double chin depicted in this bust. His reign lasted only a few months before he was defeated by Vespasian and met a violent end. This sculpture dates from the late 20th century: 1980–1990. Dimensions: 60H x 40W x 23D
