About the Item

An exceedingly rare, significant and exceptional discovery of a Ray fish [Rhinobatos hakelensis] and Sawfish [Libanopristis hiram] complete and preserved with exceptionally fine detail throughout both genus types. Discovered in Haqel, Lebanon, a site renowned for its rich geological and palaeontological history, where such specimens are embedded within the region's distinctive and beautiful sub-lithographic limestones, offers a rare glimpse into the marine life of the Eastern Mediterranean over a span of 6 million years 93+ million years ago. This discovery is particularly fascinating due to the size and preservation combined by both specimens on such a large and original plate. While many fossils of this type are often fragmented and partially preserved, these two specimens are complete, intact and measure a great 39 cm in length approximately. This is a highly unusual discovery of scientific importance. Specimens of this size, preservation and condition are exceedingly rare. [Please note: Plates, or slabs (not specimens) of this type typically feature a maximum size of 30-40 cm overall whilst displaying significant signs of damage throughout specimens, and these plates are usually severely fractured, showcasing disarticulated anatomies, plate discolouration and shifts caused by plate pressure movement during the process of preservation]. The preservation of the anatomical detail offers an extraordinary opportunity to study this rare and wonderful discovery in great detail, such discoveries highlight the geological significance of Haqel and the region's importance. This piece is supplied with an aluminium hanging system and the appropriate fixings. One bracket is pre-installed on the reverse of the limestone backed plate, while the matching bracket is provided with suitable screws for secure attachment to a structural wall. The interlocking bracket system includes all necessary fixings for a secure, discreet mount and has been carefully engineered to ensure the display remains perfectly aligned against the wall, enhancing its presentation with a refined architectural finish. STAT Hanging system included Upper: Genus: Ray Fish [Rhinobatos Hakelensis] Lower: Genus: Sawfish [Libanopritis hiram] Origin: Sub-lithographic limestone-Haqel, Lebanon Age: Cretaceous, 99 to 93 million years Limestone Plate: H: 102 x 126 x 1.5 cm \ KG: 55 Overall depth, including rear support and aluminium hanging system: 5 cm Sawfish specimen: L: 39 cm Ray specimen: L: 39 cm Due to recent changes in U.S. legislation impacting customs procedures and documentation processing, order handling times within the United States may extend to 2-3 weeks.
