About the Item

A magnificent iron sphere carved from the renowned Seymchan pallasite meteorite, discovered in the Hekandue River in the Russian Far East. This sculptural example reveals the distinctive internal structure typical of pallasites – the rarest forms of meteorites, representing only 0.2% of known finds. This tactile cross-section shows the honey-comb structure of pallasites comprised of translucent olivine crystals, often referred to as peridot, set within a lustrous iron-nickel matrix. Etching has further enhanced the natural crystalline structure of the metal, known as the Widmanstätten pattern, which is formed through the exceptionally slow cooling of molten metal in space over millions of years. Mounted on a custom wood block base for easy display, it is a remarkably aesthetic geological specimen and a sculpture in its own right. Weight: 292 g Provenance Discovered in 1967, Magadan District, Russia (62° 54’ N, 152° 26’ E). Published Meteoritical Bulletin, no. 43, Moscow (1968). Condition The polished sphere displaying beautiful olivine crystals. Presented on bespoke wooden base. Please note that this item is a work of art and is thus exempt from US reciprocal tariffs.
