About the Item

Handcrafted Vase #1 by Teppei Ono Dimensions: D35 x H40 cm Materials: Clay, Ceramic. Unique Piece Description A large, wood fired comb jar. Comb ware is made by carving lines into the clay surface with a metal comb before the clay dries out on the potter's wheel. This is the "shinogi" method, in which you add a pattern of lines to a piece of pottery. The comb patterns are produced using the rhythm of your whole body. The marks you see in different parts of the jar are caused by the iron content in the clay. The balance between the lines of the comb and these iron dots gives the jar an intense appearance. This is a unique and very valuable piece. It is also recommended for use in commercial settings such as stores. Teppei Ono Born in Ehime in 1958. Ceramist based in Kami-shi, Kochi prefecture. Following time spent as an apprentice in Tokoname, he relocated to a terraced rice field area on the foothills of Kochi prefecture’s beautiful mountains. Creator of bold and reliable vessels for daily use which comfort the users. The vessels are inspired by the simplicity, warmth and rustic richness he nurtured within himself during trips to various Asian countries and India. His work is bold and laid back.

Half half vase by Jung Hong Unique piece Dimensions: W 32 x D 32 x H 34 cm Materials: Porcelain I use the technique of 'sang-gam' (=inlay work) with my special tool, which I made myself, and create delicate and exact lines, which are all handmade, although they are often mistakenly considered manufactured. In the notched hollow lines, I delicately place the subtle different colors one by one, just as hyperrealist painters do. It took me about a year to get a detailed "moon" pattern on the porcelain "moon jar". I am a Berlin-based ceramic artist from Korea and these are very early works made in Berlin, Moon jar is a type of traditional Korean white porcelain...
