About the Item

This striking Swedish glass lamp base, attributed to Per Ström for Alsterfors, dates from the late 1960s to early 1970s. Its bold sculptural silhouette is defined by three deeply moulded ringed sections rising from a broad, rounded base, creating a form that is both architectural and distinctly Scandinavian. The vase is mould-blown in cased glass, with a vivid orange outer layer over a white opaline interior. The layering gives the glass a rich, luminous quality, while the glossy surface emphasises the dramatic curves and strong geometric profile. These vibrant colour combinations became a hallmark of Alsterfors' most progressive designs during this period. Per Ström joined Alsterfors in 1967 and helped establish the factory's reputation for modern, colour-layered glass. His designs combined simple forms with bold proportions, and closely related lamp bases are documented in Swedish museum collections. Offered here as the original glass body only, it can be professionally rewired and fitted with a shade if desired, or displayed as a sculptural object in its own right. We ship tracked, worldwide.
