About the Item

Vintage studio art glass bud vase features streamlined rounded form with Art Deco or Art Nouveau style decor. The inner layer of opaque white glass serves as a background to a free-flowing decor of blue leaves, placed blue leaves around widest part of the vase, with marigold yellow, almost gold-toned stems and leaves trailing down in the layer of clear glass, cased on the outer surfaces of the vase in sommerso technique. The round base is ground flat, but not polished. The vase is signed and dated on the side near the base, "Glasner 78 FV32"; the date coincides with the founding of Nashama Glass Studio, making it one of the earliest examples of Glasner independent work. Another example of this design is his bud vase in collection of Corning Museum of Glass with strikingly similar decor, form, and color palette, dated to 1980. The elegant, sculptural form, high-quality craftsmanship, and traditional color palette will make the vase a great gift to a collector or a design enthusiast and a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Neo Deco, Art Deco, Modern Heritage, Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau, Eclectic, Transitional, Organic Modern, Collected, or Contemporary. William Glasner is an established American glass artist, currently based in Finger Lakes area or New York state. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Rochester and studied with master glass artists such as Lino Tagliapietra, Stephen Dee Edwards, and Giani Toso, as well as at workshops at the Penland School of Crafts. From 1972 to 1978, Glasner worked and lived at the Rochester Folk Art Guild, where he was involved in developing the styles unique to the Guild studio, as well as his individual style. Glasner moved to Bristol, NE in 1978, establishing Nashama Glass Studio, and in 1988, he moved his studio to Victor, NY. Glasner work was included in influential books, such as "Glass: State of the Art" (1984) and "New Glass: A Worldwide Survey", and exhibited in multiple American and international permanent museum collections, including the Corning Museum of Glass, Denmark's GlasMuseum, the International Collection of Modern Glass, and the University Of Michigan Museum Of Art. Glasner work is represented by multiple galleries worldwide.

Matthew Buechner for Thames Glass Bud Vase, American Studio Glass 1988

Matthew Buechner for Thames Glass Bud Vase, American Studio Glass 1988

Located in Clifton Springs, NY

Sculptural Organic Modern vase features rounded, elongated form, decorated with thin layer of gold foil fused over cobalt blue glass. The abstract, graphic pattern is swirling around the curves of the vase; the whole structure is enclosed in thin layer of clear glass in sommerso technique, adding depth and definition to the piece. Minimal shape of the vase is accented with pronounced, wide rim and considerable layer of clear glass on the bottom, functioning both as a structural foot of the vase and as a visual separator, elevating the vase from the surface it's displayed on . The streamlined form of the vase allows the bold flow of the pattern to take the center stage. The vase is signed and dated in etching on the side near the bottom; it comes with the original paper booklet. We are offering two cobalt and gold sommerso glass vases, created by Thomas Buechner III and Thomas Kelly for Vitrix Hot Glass Studio in 1990s; as Matthew has close ties to Vitrix studio, it is fascinating to see the reinterpretation of cobalt and gold theme by different artists with similar artistic background, and all three vases form a striking grouping when displayed together. Sculptural, highly decorative vase with graphic form, high quality craftsmanship, and statement piece presence will make a great gift to a collector or a design enthusiast and a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Post Modern, Art Deco, Mid Century Modern, Eclectic, Transitional, Scandinavian Modern, Minimalist, Japandi, Collected, or Contemporary. Matthew Buechner is an established American glass artist; he started his training in 1975 as an apprentice to glassblower Jon Meyer in Canton, New York, and continued it at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, where he studied glass blowing with Michael Pavlik. Matthew also served as an apprentice at the Glashutte Eisch in Germany, and attended workshops at Rhode Island School of Design, the Penland School of Design, and the Haystack Mountain School in Maine. In 1979, together with his brother Thomas Buechner III, Matthew founded Vitrix Hot Glass Studio in Corning's Market Street District, regarded among America's prominent contemporary glass studios. In 1981 Matthew founded his own studio, Thames Glass...
