About the Item

This lovely Swedish vintage stoneware or ceramic bowl or tray was designed by Mari Simmulson for the company called Upsala Ekeby. It is Scandinavian mid century modern. it is from the Beata series done in 1964. It is unglazed and has a beautiful flower design in an array of colors that juxtapose each other. Stamped on the back: Sweden Model #5011M. She was a an artist for this company from the 1950's thru the 70's . Her life span was 1911-2000. She was a St. Petersburg Russia born Swedish ceramicist know and remembered as one of the leading 20th Century Designers. She moved to Estonia in 1917 and moved to Sweden on a fishing boat during World War !!. She was famous for her work with the Gustavsberg and Upsala-Ekeby porcelain factories which featured thoughtful and bold designs. Her work with Upsala_Ekeby was a key factor of influence amongst other female designers she worked with. She produced through decades colorful vases, bowls and wall plagues. Her ceramic pieces are highly collectable now and her work is shown in the Swedish National MUseum of Arts and Design Perfect as a desk accessory, serving piece, decor, or console, cocktail table addition. Art Pottery is a great layering in design.
