About the Item

Daum Nancy, Art Nouveau Cameo Glass "Jacinthes" Vase, France, circa 1900 A finely executed Daum Nancy cameo glass vase, signed with the Cross of Lorraine, dating to the Art Nouveau period, circa 1900–1910. This elegant cabinet-size vase features an or-ganically modeled baluster form with a tall cylindrical neck and a richly nuanced acid-etched surface. The decoration presents delicate stylized blue hyacinth blossoms with elongated foliage, layered over a softly frosted ground shifting from icy blue to smoky violet and deep green tones. Subtle gilt accents enrich the circular foot, adding refinement to the composition. Produced by the celebrated Daum Nancy workshop, this piece exemplifies the poetic naturalism and technical sophistication that defined French Art Nouveau glassmaking at the turn of the century. Signed in cameo Daum Nancy with the Cross of Lorraine. Circa 1900-1910 This piece is made using the acid-etched cameo glass technique, which is characteristic of Daum Nancy production around 1900. Several layers of colored glass are fused together during the blowing process. The decoration is then revealed through successive applications of acid, selectively removing the upper layers to create the design in relief. Further refinement is achieved by wheel-carving, allowing for sharper details and enhanced depth. Frosted or lightly textured backgrounds are often used to strengthen the atmospheric quality of the landscape. This demanding technique gives Daum glass a distinctly painterly quality and subtle colour gradation, typical of the firm’s naturalistic Art Nouveau creations. Very good overall condition.
