The original carved, stained hard wood base is embellished with an impressive applied hallmarked motif realistically modelled in the form of four splayed playing cards: one of each suit. The heart-shaped base features a handpiece to the upper portion, ornamented with a secondary silver mount displaying an engraved heart encompassed with scrolling leaf decoration. The surface of this exceptional antique example is encompassed with two rows of marker holes, paralleling the shaped outer rim.
