About the Item

A Silver Mezuzah Case made by Oded in Israel in the late 20th Century. Oded Davidson was born in Haifa in 1953 and moved to Jerusalem to pursue his studies in precious metals. He is one of Israel's leading Silversmiths, opening his studio over 40 years ago in a small cobblestone street opposite Jerusalem's Old City Walls. Oded has attempted and achieved a goal that he set for himself many years ago: To express Judaica through tradition in silver in an original, yet traditional manner. He has succeeded in this, as you can see in his work which speaks for itself. He is renowned not only for his unique and beautiful designs but also for his flawless workmanship. This modern Mezuzah case is just one example of Oded's fabulous craftsmanship. Case is made in a uniquely shaped fashion with a bookcase seen through the front doorway and a smaller window pierced into its top from which one can see the scroll within. Below, a chased scribe is presented sitting at a table feather in his hand, a pile of parchments resting before him. Above the doorway, a verse from the bible is engraved which reads "And you Shall Write Them (the verses of Shema) on the Doorposts of your Home", in Hebrew. Signed by the artist and marked under the bottom lower base.
