About the Item

"African Prestige Stool – Zambia (bemba/lunda), Mid-20th Century" African Prestige Stool – Zambia (Bemba/Lunda), Mid-20th Century A finely carved four-legged prestige stool from Zambia, attributed to the Bemba–Lunda cultural sphere. The seat features a chip-carved diamond border surrounding a slightly concave surface, while the four free-standing legs are decorated with incised linear motifs. The stool is open underneath, giving it a light, architectural presence despite its solid construction. Carved from a single piece of hardwood, the stool shows a deep, dark patina from age and handling. Such stools were traditionally reserved for chiefs, elders, or diviners, serving not only as functional seating but also as emblems of status and authority.
