About the Item

A rare ceiling lamp produced by Artur Eisenkeil in the 1960s. Painted metal frame, wood accents, Cocoon resin lampshade. In generally good condition, with minor flaws and small stains; retains its original patina. Artur Eisenkeil opened the Eisenkeil lighting studio in Marling in 1957, making him the first lighting manufacturer in South Tyrol. The first series were mainly made of glass, but the company also experimented with other materials. Among them was a resin-like injection mold called Cocoon, Artur Eisenkeil visited the Milan fair with the first prototypes of Cocoon lampshades. Entrepreneur and architect Dino Gavina learned about the innovative lighting models and was immediately impressed. Artur Eisenkeil then invited Dino Gavina, Tobia Scarpa, Pier Giacomo, and Achille Castiglioni to Merano for a few months to make a series of luminaires out of Cocoon material in the Lichtstudio Manufaktur. As a result, the FLOS company was founded. The luminaire series developed at the time are still among the most popular design classics.
