Rare French Art Deco Modernist opalescent glass pendant chandelier by Jean Gauthier, Paris, France, circa 1925. This exceptional French Art Deco ceiling light perfectly illustrates the refined elegance and innovative design that established Paris as the center of the decorative arts during the 1920s. Featuring a large, thick opalescent molded glass shade suspended from an elegant silver-plated brass frame, the chandelier combines sculptural simplicity with remarkable luminosity, making it a timeless statement piece for both classic and contemporary interiors. Measuring 20.5 inches (52 cm) in height and 16 inches (40.5 cm) in diameter, this authentic antique pendant light displays beautiful proportions and outstanding craftsmanship. The metal retains a light, age-appropriate patina that enhances its originality and vintage character. The fixture is professionally rewired for your country’s electrical standards (US, UK, EU, Australia, China, etc.) and is fully compatible with modern LED bulbs. Jean Gauthier was among the leading French Art Deco glassmakers of the interwar years. After establishing his first Paris workshop on Rue Jean Robert shortly after World War I, he expanded production to Ézanville, where his factories became known for their high-quality molded and pressed Art Deco glass. Depending on the period, his creations were signed Gauthier, J. Robert, EJG (Établissements Jean Gauthier), or Ézan France, while many authentic examples remained unsigned. His opalescent glass lighting from the late 1920s and 1930s is especially prized for its refined forms and exceptional light diffusion. Produced during the same flourishing artistic period as René Lalique, Marius-Ernest Sabino, and Edmond Etling, this rare Jean Gauthier pendant chandelier embodies the sophisticated modernism that defines French Art Deco lighting.
