About the Item

A 20th-century cut crystal and gilt bronze mounted table lamp in the style of Baccarat. The crystal is executed in a classical urn form, cut with alternating bands of diamond point and vertical fluting. Finely cast bronze mounts frame the body with restrained ornament — including figural handles and a fluted collar — all raised on a square crystal plinth and gilt base with paw feet. The proportions are elegant and deliberate. The combination of weighty bronze and clear, structured crystal gives the lamp architectural presence while maintaining visual lightness. The bronze has developed a soft, even patina. The crystal remains bright and sharply defined. The overall effect is tailored rather than ornate — suitable for refined interiors where balance and restraint matter. The lamp is fitted with a custom oval empire shade, an elegant and less common form that provides a more tailored, architectural presence—particularly suited for placement on consoles or against a wall. The shade is clad in a cream silk damask, featuring a subtle, tone-on-tone floral pattern with a soft luster that enhances the ambient glow. The fabric is meticulously knife-pleated, lending a crisp, couture-like finish. Encircling the lower edge is a striking band of metallic thread passementerie trim, also consistent with Old World Weavers production. The trim is richly woven with an openwork, almost lace-like structure, executed in warm gilt tones that complement the lamp’s brass elements and add a layer of refined opulence. Unmarked. Dimensions: 27.5" high 5.5" wide 5" deep Condition: Good vintage condition. Minor surface wear consistent with age. Bronze with light patination. Wiring present; not tested.
