About the Item

A pair of white glazed faux rattan ceramic table lamps with new handwoven jute shades — sculptural Hollywood Regency and Palm Beach style, with an easy coastal Mediterranean character, made in Manises, Spain, circa 1960s–1970s. The bases are glossy white ceramic worked in trompe-l'œil to look like woven rattan. Newly wired for U.S. use. International plug customization available at no charge. Height includes lampshade. The new handwoven jute shades pick up the woven texture of the bases in real fiber, soft and warm in tone. Condition is very good, with minor glaze loss in a few small areas, visible only on close inspection. About Manises Ceramics Manises sits just outside Valencia, on Spain's Mediterranean coast, where ceramic production has been the defining local craft since the medieval period. From the 14th century onward, its Hispano-Moresque lusterware was prized across Europe, shipped from the port of Valencia to noble households across the continent. The tradition carried forward through the centuries, and by the mid-twentieth century Manises potteries produced everything from traditional earthenware to inventive decorative work for the export market. The faux-rattan modeling on these lamps belongs to that later twentieth-century output — historically grounded, technically inventive, and shaped by the Mediterranean coastal character that has long defined the region's craft. Each lamp is crafted with deep reverence for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every antique or vintage vase. The lamp bases are paired with bespoke lampshades and each piece is finished with carefully selected cords, fittings, and handmade brass elements. The studio's work is guided by a commitment to sustainability, cultural heritage, and timeless design.
