About the Item

Brutalist Murano glass mirror by Creaciones Gobesso, dated 1983, with a sculptural gilt gesso frame set with amber and deep red glass medallions. Circular in form and relatively compact in scale, the mirror is defined by a heavily textured frame whose darkened recesses contrast with raised gilt detailing. A continuous ring of individually framed Murano glass elements surrounds the central mirror, alternating between warm amber and deep red tones. Each glass medallion has a deliberately rough, irregular surface, retaining pronounced sheared textures rather than a uniformly polished finish. A silver-toned layer beneath the glass catches and reflects light through the uneven surfaces, accentuating their depth, colour and fractured appearance. The substantial glass elements sit within the equally tactile gilt gesso frame, creating the strongly modelled surface associated here with the Brutalist design language. A ribbed inner border separates the glass-set frame from the central amber-toned mirror. The combination of gilt, amber, red and darkened recesses creates a particularly warm palette, while the irregular glass introduces shifting reflections as the piece is viewed under different lighting. The reverse retains its original sticker, handwritten and dated October 1983. The piece was purchased from the Creaciones Gobesso gallery in Ibiza. Very good condition, with no chips or damage present. Minor surface wear commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: Diameter 18 cm / 7.09 in.; depth 3 cm / 1.18 in Display base not included.
