About the Item

Monograph on eminent Austrian-born Australian architect Harry Seidler, written by eminent American architect, historian, and educator Peter Blake. Seidler (1923-2006) was an early and influential exponent of Bahaus-inflected modernist architecture in Australia, having worked or studied with Walter Gropius and Marcel Breuer at Harvard, Josef Albers at Black Mountain, and Oscar Niemeyer in Rio de Janeiro. Covers both commercial and residential projects from 1946-1973. Published in Australia in 1973 by Horwitz/Wittenborn/Kraemer. 4to (10.25” x 11.25”), hardcover with dust jacket, 264 pages, illustrated throughout, some in color. Inscribed by Seidler on the half-title page to John Entenza, editor of Arts & Architecture Magazine and a pivotal figure in the growth of American modernism, especially via his sponsorship of the Case Study House project. With a signed letter to Entenza laid in on Seidler’s letterhead. A nice copy enhanced by a significant association.
