About the Item

An exquisite American Waltham ladies pendant watch, manufactured circa 1901 and housed in a finely crafted solid 14-karat gold case by the Crescent Watch Case Manufacturing Company. Measuring 35 mm in diameter, the watch exemplifies the marriage of American horology and Victorian decorative arts. The reverse is beautifully ornamented with two songbirds perched among flowering branches and foliage, executed in richly detailed rose, green, and yellow gold accents against a yellow gold ground. Intricate engraving and engine-turned decoration create remarkable depth and texture, transforming the watch case into a miniature work of art. The watch opens to reveal a white enamel dial with black Roman numeral hour markers, blued-steel hands, and a subsidiary seconds register at six o'clock. A 15-jewel Waltham movement provides quality mechanical timekeeping, reflecting the company's reputation as one of America's foremost watch manufacturers.
