About the Item

Magnificent Talavera ceramic vase or albarelo, hand-decorated with stylized plant motifs in cobalt blue and oxide red on an ivory white background, topped with a characteristic copper-plated glaze, typical of the Hispano-Moorish techniques inherited from 18th-century New Spain and Spain. The slightly rounded, cylindrical body features visually powerful rhythmic decoration with free, expressive brushstrokes. The flared, outward-turning upper rim is designed for both function and aesthetics, suggesting its use as a luxury utilitarian object or as an ornamental piece in high-status domestic contexts. This type of pottery is highly representative of the Viceregal Baroque, with clear Mudejar influences and a technical mastery that makes it a standout work within the pottery tradition of Talavera de la Reina (Spain) or Puebla (Mexico), depending on the origin.
