About the Item

An armchair designed by Jaroslav Šmídek, model 53, produced by TON in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s. This mid-century modern piece exemplifies the elegance and craftsmanship of Czech design, with its sculptural bentwood frame and striking, artful upholstery. The beechwood structure has been fully restored and finished with a hand-applied satin matte varnish that enhances the natural beauty of the wood. The seat has been reupholstered in “Convexe” velvet by Casamance – a luxurious, high-quality fabric featuring geometric and curved Art Deco–inspired motifs. Both visually dynamic and pleasant to the touch, the fabric also offers excellent durability for everyday use. Professionally restored and ready to use, this chair makes a bold statement on its own or as part of a curated interior. Ideal for use in a reading nook, living space, or as an accent piece. Custom orders are available upon request. Clients may choose from a range of alternative fabrics and wood finishes. Fabric swatches and wood stain samples can be viewed at the end of the image gallery. Please note: all custom orders are final and non-returnable. Made in Czechoslovakia. Fully restored.

The 366 armchair is an icon of the polish design of the PRL period. The famous armchair was designed in 1962 by the Polish interior designer and furniture designer Jozef Marian Chierowski. Produced in the Lower Silesian Furniture Factory in Swiebodzice. The chair has a simple, modernist form. It consists of an upholstered seat combined with a wooden backrest. The organic shape is typical of the 1960s style. The chair is very ergonomic and comfortable, as the furniture designs of that time were largely focused on the user. Due to its small size, the furniture fits perfectly into the interiors of contemporary apartments...
